It is most important after purchasing a property here in Spain that you set up a Spanish will; this is regardless of whether or not you have a will set up in your own country.
If you were to die without having prepared a Spanish will, your beneficiaries would then need to execute your will domiciled and present it to the Spanish courts. The legal procedure must then be carried out with the due process of the courts which is a very lengthy and costly business taking two years or more to complete with costs in the region of 2,000 euros. These costs would be separate from the additional charges of inheritance tax which your beneficiaries would also be liable for.
We therefore strongly recommend to all of our clients that they should arrange a Spanish will immediately upon completing their property purchase.
The cost of setting up such a legal document with most Spanish lawyers will vary between 300 – 600 euros depending on the firm used.
However we have negotiated with Senora Ruiz a special rate for our clients of only 120 euros.
